If you want to get the most out of your werewolf Halloween costumes, why not host a werewolf Halloween party this year? With a little thoughtful planning you can have a howling good time in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Timing is everything. Mail out invitations 3 to 4 weeks before the party and be sure to include a deadline to RSVP. Halloween is a popular time of the year and you may be competing with several other events for your guests’ time. The sooner you get the word out the better the opportunity you’ll have for a good turnout.
Send invitations designed to pique more than the average interest in your party. Use a werewolf-themed motif. You may be better off making your own Halloween invitations rather than trying to find them at the party store. Come up with your own design or check out Halloween clipart for werewolves, full moons, howling wolves, or other werewolf-themed designs. Find coordinating colored paper or card stock for a unique and attention-grabbing announcement.
Play up the atmosphere. If possible choose a date when the moon will be full or nearly full (and cross your fingers for clear skies). This may not work if your goal is to party precisely on Ten Thirty One, depending on how far away Halloween falls from the next full moon date. But just imagine how enchanting the evening will be if you can pull this off.
Consider playing werewolf-howling sound effects outside (hopefully your neighbors are all invited! If not make sure you touch base with them ahead of time). Get a fog-making machine and set it outside near the entry for a misty, ominous effect. You could also fill a tub with dry ice and douse it periodically with hot water to create mist, but a word of caution about this: dry ice needs to be handled with care because of the chemicals it contains. It should be kept in a well-ventilated area and never come into contact with your skin (it’ll burn!).
If you have a projection system you can play werewolf movies and project them onto an exterior front wall for all of your arriving guests and passerby to see. It’s a great way to create atmosphere and generate excitement. If an exterior wall won’t work then bring it inside and use an interior wall; you’ll still set the mood in great style.
Indoors you can place a few werewolf props and decorations strategically throughout the house. Print off some werewolf trivia and stick them up on the walls or on counters and tables for guests to peruse at their leisure. Silver beads make great silver bullets. Place several beads in bowls and place them throughout the house. Mix it up with a few vampire decorations for added effect. Play werewolf videos in the background.
The menu can include an assortment of werewolf-inspired recipes and other spooky treats along with traditional party food fare.
Werewolf costumes are a must for the guests. Even jeans with a werewolf T-shirt would fit right in. Award prizes for the most interesting, creative and scariest costumes.
If kids are invited, arrange for a few of the adult guests to take them around the neighborhood for trick-or-treating. When they return, they can watch werewolf movies while they go through their loot (after an adult has already made sure the treats are safe). Have some Halloween printables handy such as Halloween bingo, Halloween word scramble, Halloween maze and other games to keep them entertained.
Gather guests of all ages in a darkened, quiet room for spine-tingling story-telling time.
If your party is a hit consider making it an annual event. You can even combine merry-making with charity. Ask guests to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the local soup kitchen. Or make it a “funraiser” where guests make a donation in an amount of their choosing to raise money for a favorite cause.
Whether you plan a one-time bash or make it an annual affair, the possibilities are endless for making your event the place to be. Happy howl-o-ween everyone!
