Best Halloween Cakes and Spooky Dessert Ideas
The perfect ending to a perfect night of ghosts and goblins and trick or treating, has to be a spooky dessert. Halloween cakes are always a fun way to finish a night of intrigue. From the simplest to the more complex recipes, there is a Halloween cake out there for all of us!
The easiest Halloween cake is the pumpkin cake. Simply ice your cake with orange frosting and decorate by making any expressive pumpkin face. You can use candy corn or broken pieces of chocolate to decorate. Some people simply prefer to use a chocolate frosting cake writer to draw the face.
Another fun cake that is quite popular among children is the worms and dirt cake. Simply scoop out a small portion of the very center of your cake. Fill it with crushed chocolate cookies (to resemble dirt) and gummy worms. Let some of the worms ‘crawl’ out of the hole and rest on the top of the cake. This can be quite dramatic when it is decorated carefully.
Another effective and easy decoration for a Halloween cake is gross colored frosting. A little bit of food coloring goes a long way, and green frosting can be especially spooky. Throw a few gummy spiders on top and you have a revolting masterpiece. Or just use black and orange frosting and swirl or stripe your cake.
These are just a few ideas to get you started on those Halloween cakes. And remember, when all else fails, those trick-or-treat bags aren’t half bad!
Spooky Halloween Cupcakes
There are many ways you can decorate Halloween cupcakes. We will describe two spooky Halloween cupcakes you can make and decorate for the holiday.
The first spooky Halloween cupcake looks like a haunted house. You will need to mix up a brownie mix according to the package directions. Preheat the oven to 350 and place 10 waffle cone bowls on cookie sheets. Fill each bowl 2/3 full with the batter and bake for 25 minutes. Cool completely and frost with a container of chocolate or caramel frosting. Break a graham cracker into 4 rectangles and press them into the center of each cupcake to make the walls of the haunted house. Break another rectangle in half and use frosting to hold it on to the top of the house as the roof. You can then use licorice, sprinkles, gumdrops and candy corn to decorate the house and surrounding area.
The second spooky Halloween cupcake looks like a ghost with hands reaching out. Bake cupcakes according to package directions and cool completely. Spread a little vanilla frosting on the top of the cupcake and then cut a large marshmallow in half, crosswise. Put one half on top of the cupcake and cover it with frosting. Roll a whole marshmallow until it is about 2 inches long and cut it in half. Place on either side of the cupcake for the hands. Finish frosting and add black jelly bean eyes and an orange jelly bean mouth.
Now you have spooky Halloween cupcakes to take to your next Halloween gathering!
