Those Ghoulish Hors D’ouevres
No Halloween party would be complete without the Halloween appetizers to add that edible mystique to the evening. Though the prospect of Halloween appetizers may at first seem daunting to the host, with a little imagination it will seem as though the witches have landed in your kitchen.
If you have Halloween cookie cutters, you can make spooky chips. Just flatten out a tortilla, cut out the desired shapes, broil in a little oil, and sprinkle with the spices of your choice. Voila! You have spooky chips. Some people prefer the sweetened version, which can be accomplished by sprinkling with cinnamon and sugar.
Or perhaps you’d like to serve some eyeballs. Just use your favorite cheese ball recipe and roll little eyeball shaped balls. Then insert an olive in the center of each one to make the eye complete.
Chicken wings can be bat wings, any cream cheese dip with a little tomato juice can be bloody dip, and some candy bugs inside jello cubes make for all sorts of eerie and wiggly eating.
The Internet is a wonderful source for finding the Halloween appetizers of your nightmares! Even something as easy as Halloween themed toothpicks can add that festive flare to your snacks.
And if you run out of ideas, just remember that your every day appetizers become Halloween fright foods with a name change. Pigs ‘n blankets can be goblin toes; popcorn can be brain fragments, etc. Children, especially, will join in on the imaginative aspect and contribute with lots of ideas of their own.
