How to Choose a Star Wars Halloween Costume

Star Wars Halloween Costumes are a Perennial Favorite! I don’t need to tell you how hugely popular they are every year. With all the Star Wars movies, cartoons, books, toys, etc. out there, it’s no wonder that there are dozens of Star Wars Halloween Costumes or characters to choose from.

Star Wars is an epic space sci-fi franchise initially conceived by George Lucas. As soon as the first film was released on May 25, 1977, it became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, spawning two immediate sequels, (released at three-year intervals), and 16 years later, the first in a new prequel trilogy of films was released, again released at three-year intervals, with the final film released on May 19, 2005.

As of 2008, the overall box office revenue generated by the six Star Wars films has totaled approximately $4.3 billion, making it the third-highest-grossing film series, behind only the James Bond and Harry Potter films. It’s easy to see why Star Wars costumes are so popular for Halloween!

The question is, which Star Wars Halloween Costume should you choose?

The first thing you should do is brainstorm. The purpose of brainstorming is to NOT dismiss any idea, no matter how outrageous. Try to make a big list of anything you can think of; there’s gotta be hundreds of different characters and creatures within the Star Wars universe. Think of the Cantina scene in Episode 4 or Jabba the Hutt’s palace in Episode 6. After you have a large list, narrow it down.

You can narrow it down by personality. Maybe you’re not the strong, silent type; don’t go as Boba Fett. Maybe you feel angry yet powerful; go as Anakin. You get the idea. You can narrow your list down by cost. This one goes without saying; you can only get what you can afford. For instance, there’s Darth Vader outfit that goes for almost $800!! I don’t know about you, but that’s just a tad out of my price range…. You can also narrow your list down by comfort; C3PO not going to be as free-moving an outfit as an Obi Wan Kenobi robe ensemble, and the Princess Leia slave outfit may be a little too free-moving, if you get my meaning.

Make it yourself – If you want to be unique, the only way to absolutely guarantee you’ll have a unique Halloween costume is to make it yourself (or at least come up with the concept yourself, and then get someone to make it for you). This can be a way to get off cheap too, because to be a Jedi all you really need is a brown monk’s robe, a tan shirt, a rope or sash belt to hold the robe closed, and a light saber (probably the only thing you’d have to actually buy).

Look at what’s new for this year – Costume makers seem to come up with new variations on old favorites every year. There are new, more realistic costumes for Obi Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker, etc. Many of the online costume suppliers have a “new for this year” section on their websites. Find a website that specializes in Halloween costumes – They have already taken the time to choose and review original and unique Star Wars Halloween costumes so that you can spend the time deciding which is best for you. Just make sure you find a site that has pictures and descriptions of their costumes, so you actually know what you’re getting. Here are just a few of the Star Wars Halloween Costumes available.

You know what would be a cool idea if you’re hosting a Halloween Party? Start off as Anakin Skywalker, but grow progressively darker as the party continues. Then at some point sneak away and come back as Darth Vader. Just a suggestion. The important thing is to really get into your character and HAVE FUN!
